White Goes Outside To Win 5th Event This Season
San Bernardino – Colton’s Linny White added another notch in his pursuit of the 2008 BSR West Super Late Model Championship. White started in the back of the field with only one car behind him and worked his way to his 3rd consecutive and 5th overall main event win. White made good use of the outside groove, which was laid down on the historic ¼ mile high banked oval for the 2008 season. White picked off cars one by one, passing on that outside line until he caught up with Riverside’s Mark Shackleford, who had gained the lead in lap 20 of the 50 lap race. Shackleford had not raced since opening night and looked like he was set up for a victory on his return. With only eight laps to go, White passed Shackleford to take the lead. A yellow flag in lap 46 closed up the field, but White was able to fend off Shackleford and take the Statewide Towing/Luke’s Autobody Monte Carlo to Victory Lane.
2008 season newcomer Dwayne Blay is making his mark at OSS. Blay started the 40 lap ASA Factory 4 main event outside row three but soon made his way to the front of the field to take the lead in lap six. Blay then proceeded to lap every car in the race including 5th place runner Drew Reed. Crestline’s Kim Marzullo and Walnut’s Art Ramirez were unable to catch
Blay so the two ran a heated race for second place in the final six laps, with Ramirez winning by a fender’s length. This race marks Blay’s 2nd main event win this season. Blay drives the #6 Toyota truck in which Spencer Samaro won two championships at OSS.
Riverside’s Don Minut has won half of the six main events in the ASA Pro 4 Division at OSS this season. After spins and crashes caused two full restarts, Minut took the lead and never looked back. Minut took the Maverick’s Steak House Ford Fusion to a third victory this season. Earlier in this division’s trophy dash, Keith Blomgren got tapped coming out of turn four on the final lap. The tap sent Blomgren’s car spinning as he struggled to gain control. Blomgren ended up crossing the finish line tail end first to win the trophy dash.
The Pure Stocks put on a 20 lap main event, which ended up as a battle between brothers Mark and Tom Whitson. Mark Whitson started on the pole and held the lead despite the efforts of Tom Whitson who made his way from the rear of the field up to second place. The Whitsons have won all of the main events in this division in 2008.
