93rd National Orange Show Festival will make Speedway’s ‘Race to Remember’ special this Memorial Day weekend
SAN BERNARDINO, CA – Almost immediately after becoming Director of Motorsports, Joe Ganino made his first of what have become many changes and improvements. Ganino announced that ALL military would never pay a dime to enjoy racing at the historic ¼ mile oval. The community’s long-standing relationship with the United States Military made this an easy decision in his eyes;
“Although the military has restructured, closed based, etc., brave men and women of the surrounding communities gladly serve to protect our freedoms. My team, the NOS Events Center and I feel it is the least we can do to say thank you.”
In compliment to that, the speedway gives annual Fair goers and chance to see the action up close and personal with displays throughout the 93rd Annual National Orange Show Festival, as well as providing Free Admission to all Fair goers for exciting race action that will include the BSR West Super Late Models, ASA Speed Truck Challenge and the Leno’s Rico Taco Legends. This year’s theme for the Fair, “The Way We Were,” will include the Team Lucas Lagoon, which will showcase vehicles on display as well as other great partners from Lucas Oil. As all Fair goers enter the NOS Events Center, they will see a montage of sponsors, race vehicles and a very special display that walks hand in hand with Orange Show Speedways support of the brave men and women of the United States Military.
Saturday evening’s race activities has been named ‘Race to Remember’ to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. Complimentary passes to Saturday’s activities have been delivered and offered to military bases, support stations and the like throughout the region. Accompanying these activities will be a very special appearance by Kevyn Major Howard, who played Rafterman in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Full Metal Jacket’ and who has created his own tribute to the US Military. Howard has personally built vintage Chevy Nova drag cars that pay tribute to the men and women of the United States Marine Corp who have died during the war in Iraq. The ’Fueled by the Fallen’ vehicles will be display throughout the Fair weekend that begins Thursday, May 22, 2008 and runs thru Memorial Day on Monday. Fueled by the Fallen supports the military families of those who have suffered as a result of the war in Iraq. For more information, please visit www.fueledbythefallen.com.
“Our goal on Fair weekend has always been to introduce the great sport or racing to new fans, and now with the Fair running every Memorial Day weekend, ‘Race to Remember’ gives us the chance to really bring our local members of the United States Military together at the speedway and tell them that we do realize the sacrifices they make each and every day for the freedoms we sometimes take for granted,” said Ganino.
The race card will include the first of two visits from the ASA Speed Truck Challenge touring series, Leno’s Rico Taco Legends and a chance for the Colton Cowboy, Linny White to continue his winning streak in the BSR West Super Late Models. White has won the last two main events and will be up against a full field as the division will be running a set of twin 50-lap Main events for fans, and valuable Orange Show Speedway 2008 points.
