‘COMMUNITY & FAMILY’ IN FREE THIS OSS WEEKEND AS DRIVERS TAKE ON A NATIONAL AUDIENCE
SAN BERNARDINO – If the pressure to compete and succeed in the BSR West Super Late Models wasn’t enough, competing for a National Championship has raised the stakes. ASA announced this off-season the formation of the ASA Member Track Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil National Championship. A great turnout by drivers, teams as well as exciting action has already brought 4 different drivers to victory lane in 2008 and catapulted three OSS drivers into the top 10 spots after the first round of reporting by ASA. With a strong finish by a couple of drivers this weekend, OSS could be represented by as many as 8 drivers in the top 20. Leading the way is OSS points leader Barry Karr, who presently sits 4th in the National Rankings. Karr is still looking for win number one of season after already finishing second in three of the first six races.
“Our focus remains on getting our first win and a Championship here at OSS. We’ve already been close. We just need to seal the deal. We’ll see how things play out nationally, but the true test is against the drivers I compete against week in and week out” said Karr.
The BSR West Super Late Models will highlight an evening of racing with twin 50-lap Main Events that will include the Pro 4s, Factory 4s, and CEC Street Stocks. OSS Staff and Officials hope for a ‘quieter’ pits this weekend as OSS announced rulings concerning actions by drivers and teams the last time these divisions raced. Tony Forfa III and Jimmy Rouse Sr. were fined for technical rules violations while Jeff Imbriani, CJ Evans, Chuck Becker Jr, and members of the Kyle McGrady team where fined for behavior deemed detrimental to the sport. Becker and McGrady have additionally been placed on probation for 30 days in reference to Rule 6-1.1 of the Orange Show Speedway Rulebook.
Rule 6-1.1 The driver shall be the sole spokesperson for his/her car owner and pit crew in any and all matters pertaining to an event. At all times the driver assumes responsibility for the actions of his/her team.
Saturday, June 21st will also be the second of OSS ‘Family Nights’ where all children 12 years of age and younger get in FREE with paid adult admission. It also continues their ‘Celebrate Community’ program with the track’s hometown of San Bernardino being highlighted. All residents from San Bernardino who show their Picture ID at the gate will be granted free admission.
